Nam June Paik

Nam June Paik is famous for scattering televisions everywhere and using magnets to alter or distort their images. In the picture above it shows many televisions and magnets around the television creating the map of the United States. The televisions are turned on and the magnets show different colors. The shapes of the states are so well recognized. The television channels are all paired up. The seem paired up according to the state their at. It shows that Paik really loves to outstand with his creations. He likes using different magnets and uses them to create different shapes.
To create this kind of art you really need to have an imagination. The use of televisions to create art is not very common and is not very recognized. That is what makes Paik creations so original. If you see this image from far away you just see the United States map but when you look closer you could see everythin else behind.

Scott Blake

This image shows  Scott Blake turning barcodes into art forms, using it to create images of Jesus. I did some research on Scott Blake and he uses barcodes and turns them into different kinds of images. This images of Jesus looks so simple an original. It also looks like the image of Jesus we christians see in other images. Using barcodes to create images is just something so unique. Scott Blake art work shows some inspiration because it makes me feel like we could use anything to create beautiful images as the image of Jesus. The eyes of Jesus look so real that this picture would not make any difference as the other images.

It took him thousands of barcodes to create this images. There is no way you can count the barcodes in this image. It makes me want to turn to barcodes and see the creations behind them. The barcodes seem like a black and a white color. However, it takes an open mind to see the real meaning of barcodes.

Bryn Ho

Bryn picture shows sadness and depression. Bryn is closing her eyes and  looks likes she is trying to forget everything that exists in the world. The color of the image is black with grey. These colors in many cases represent death or loneliness. Bryn looks in the middle of a fog where nothing is seen exept for her. Bryn has wings that may represent freedom in some way. Her dress is black and there seems to be a moon glowing Bryn.
This picture makes me feel sad and depressed. The colors make me feel lonely. Bryn has wings but she looks like she is not ready to fly. I took a look at other other images of Bryn Ho and all her pictures consist of a dark color. It makes me feel like Bryn feels depressed at times that may be a reason why she uses dark colors in her images.

Vaneeesa Blaylock

In Vaneeesa Blaylock second life avatar picture it shows different skin color women facing to the front as if they were posing for some picture. All these second life avatar women seem to be nude in public. Their bodies are thin, their all wearing the same style and color of shoes. There are 25 silent women they all look alike. These second life avatar women are demostrating that their are unique and they all have something in common. I did some research on Blaylock and many of her work have beautiful second life avatar women.

In the beggining to me all the women looked the same but everytime I would stare again at the picture I started defining the symmetry of every womens body. These 25 avatar women reflect on our fantasies and on us. These 25 women are all beautiful and none of them are left behind or is being discriminated because of the different color her skin is. It shows 25 women from different cultures, these 25 avatar women are so sexy that everyone wants to look at them. Their so perfect, her bodies are perfect, her fashion and the way their possing for the camara. These women make beautiful patterns together they look so united which shows a message that women from all color and races ahould be united.

Joseph Delappe

Delappe is an associate professor of the department of art at the University of Nevada. he is famous for protesting on Iraq War. He as a web site called Iraqmemorial.org. Joseph Delappe's dead in Iraq is an online performance, memorial and protest. This video game shows how many soldiers from the army have died in Iraq. This video game, shows a soldier from the army laying down in the floor dead without anyone helping him. This video game is not intended to show the pleasure to show soldiers dead for fun but to show the seriousness of the war in Iraq. This video game brings messages to many Americans in the U.S.
Being in Iraq is not a fun place to be at, the war kills many soldiers each year leaving many people sad and lonely. This video shows how joining the army is not a good place to join because it leads many soldiers to death. it leaves soldiers laying down in the floor without anyone helping them.

UCI/Beall Center for Art+Technology

On Friday March 25, 2011 I got the opportunity to visit the UCI/ Beall Center for Art+Technology. In the gallery I got the opportunity to see Chico MacMurtrie Amorphic Robot Works. In the gallery they had three different kinds of inflatable bodies. These three inflatable bodies are called the Birds, Inner space , and Bic Morphic. The student who was in charge of the gallery explained to me that these inflatable bodies have life and death. If you get close to them they start inflating and creating sounds but if you move away from them they will die. She explained to me that these Inflatable robots are multi- faceted machine-sculptures that interact in their uniquely designed environments. The work involves a kinesthetic inquiry into the human condition, which has resulted in the creation of more than 250 mechanical sculptures that assume anthropomorphic and abstract forms. The first inflatable work involved birds.

These inflatable robots have the looks of a bird. When I got near them they automatically started inflating by themselves. It was very exciting to see all the birds inflating like if they were just born. They also were making some sounds. The greatest part was that nothing was cover. Everything was shown on how they created the birds. There were many invisible cables connected to the birds. The birds seem to be flying. In the beginning I didn't really get the point of the birds but then the student told me that you had to use your imagination in order to see the life of the birds. After I moved away from the birds, they automatically started dying . I also saw two other inflatables robots. The first one seemed like a spider web. I was able to go inside the inflatable robot, the student told me that I could get trap in the spider web so I needed to be careful.

I also got the chance to see the inner space inflatable body. In the beggining I was confused because I tought that it was a spider web or something else. The student there explained to me that it was a Inner Space body and if you would get near it it would start inflating by itself and also start creating sounds. She also said that you had to put your time to see the picture of the body. I was very excited to see this inflation body work, I was also able to go inside the inflatable body and be able to experience it myself.

This inflatable body is called Biomorphic, It looks like the body of a human. When I first saw this piece of art i didn't know what it was. Again, i use my imagination and it look like the movement of a human and the death of a human. It was very interesting to see this inflatable body because its different from the others is also more simple and turns into different forms. The student at UC Irvine explained to me that art is all about using your imagination and that you always have to see things in order to have an experience.  To be able to see all this inflatable bodies you have to use your imagination. The birds reminded me of when i used to draw those kinds of birds because that was the only kind of birds i was able to draw. It was a very small gallery but i think the smaller a gallery is the more time you will have to look at an art creation. The student there also showed me books about the other inflatable bodies Chico has created. Their all around the world. Perhaps someday ill have a chance to go see all of these inflatable bodies and just get insipred by them. I believe that everyone can create something if we just take the time to think about what we want to create. It was an awesome experience and i hope all of you get the chance to go and look at these inflatable bodies. I had alot of fun and I am going again with my family.

Toni Dove: Spectropia

Toni Dove

Toni Dove is an artist and a independent producer who works with electronic media, including virtual reality, interactive video installations, performance and DVD ROM's. Her work has been presented in the United States, Europe and Canada as well as on radio and television. In 1998 she completed Artificial Changelings soundtrack by Swiss composer (Peter Scherer). Her project Spectropia is a feature length interactive movie for two players.

Spectropia is a  imaginative live-mix cinema event, a “scratchable” movie performed by video DJs playing a movie “instrument”. Toni Dove’s sci-fi hybrid, features time travel, telepathy, and elements of film noir in a drama set in England, 2099 and in New York City, 1931, following the Great Crash. Live performers orchestrate onscreen characters through an original mix of film, performance and a unique system of motion sensing that serves as a cinematic instrument, creating a narrative form that is part video game, part feature film, and part VJ mashing. The audience sees through characters’ eyes, hears their interior thoughts, and even talks with characters via Dove and her co-performer, R. Luke DuBois.
The story starts off in 2066. An archaeologist named Spectropia lives in a city where recreating the past in any form is forbidden. Every day, garbage piles up. Using a device that simulates the historical context of these artifacts and discarded objects, Spectropia travels back to New York, 1931. During the Depression, the capitalist structure strengthened its position through the indebtedness of the American people, with disastrous social consequences. A witness to the paradoxes of this dark era, Spectropia seeks to establish ties between the New York of the 1930s and the city she inhabits in the 21st century. This journey through time allows the character to adopt the point of view of a 1930s aristocrat and to live out her amorous passions by proxy. However, as soon as Spectropia tries to become intimate with a man from the 20th century, she is sent back to 2066. Thus, the conclusion of the story is undermined by the main character’s unfulfilled and unfulfillable desires.

Toni Dove sees Spectropia as a hybrid work combining a theatrical event with a video game for multiple players. Motion detectors and voice recognition devices activate the video segments and soundtrack. During public screenings of the film, two tutor-players control the console and simultaneously affect the parts of the story attributed to the characters from the 20th and 21st centuries. The installation consists of several levels of interaction since the audience is asked to join in. Participants are therefore able to converse with the characters, share in their private thoughts and enjoy a panoramic view of the action. The video images are projected onto several screens arranged in an arc in front of the audience.

During the production and postproduction stages of the project, Toni Dove has worked with several technical collaborators, including David Rokeby, Bob Carpenter and J. J. Gilford. David Zicarelli, the designer of MAX software, acted as a consultant. Julio Soto and Sebastian Bilbao of Black Logic looked after the computer-animated segments. Finally, Perry Hoberman has helped integrate the interactive components of the stage design of Spectropia.
Spectropia  is ones of Toni Dove famous film, that have brought people with emotions. Next I will show more pictures of this incredible film.

Comet Morigi

Comit Morigi second life is based on the basic elements of the in world. is based on lands, clouds, water, rainbows, island, and trees. In Morigi second life this seems more like an in world. Is very similar to Mirigi first life out world, but their are few differences. the in world is full of beauty without any pollution in the sky, or in the water. The out world is full of pollution in the sky contamination in the waters, therefore there is something that separates both of this worlds. In Morigi second life ahe likes to create a world similar to the world that we live in.

Four Yip

The style features human and humanistic type creatures that have animalistic attributes and small animal companions. A lot of the characters that she paints wear skin tight masks. The facial features of the people have a realistic feel to them which she softens up by adding animal fur, ears, and outfits. Her creations all have a common theme, fantasy.Yip shows a fantasy in her second life that no one could discover in her first life. The mask and  the way Yip poses shows some sexual fantasy that she wants to have.

Yip second life picture makes me feel more confident about having an open mind. In a second life, people don't have to be close minded is more of becoming open minded to whatever someone has in min. Four Yip has a very open mind and she lets all those fantasies show in her second life. For example, in a first life no one would think about rabbits with the bodies of humans. In a second life Four Yip is allowed to express her thoughts and emotions.

Gracie kendal

Gracie kendal shows in her second life different versions of her body. kendal sees herself through different images. In the image way in the back kendal is skinny. Next to the skinny body kendal is a little bit more thicker but looks confident about her body. In the next version of her body Kendal is thick and she also looks confident about her body. It shows more of an attractive confident body.  kendal seems to be staying away from the media in her second life personality and just be beautiful the way you are. If you are skinny you are beautiful, if you are thick you are beautiful. Gracie Kendall second life inspires me because it demonstrates how beauty can be defined in any shape of the body. You don't necessarily have to be skinny to be beautiful any shape of  body is beautiful and there is nothing that we should be embarrassed about.

Gracie Kendall also shows different kinds of fashion for different body shapes. If you take a look all Kendal bodies are wearing the color black but they all wearing different types of blouses.I notice that in the skinny bodies kendal wears a more outgoing blouses. For example, she is showing her arms more. In the bodies where she is skinnier, she seems to be covering herself a little more. But notice that her chest is different in all her pictures. I think kendal second life is full of beauty and body shapes don't matter, every women is beautiful according to her body shape.

Miso Susanowa

Miso Susanowa  is in a planet where there are different kind of flowers. Also, numbers exist in this world for example, you could see the number 53,75,61, 60 around this planet. You can also see different colors of mushrooms growing on the brown ground. In the top there are different kinds of planets that seem really close to the planet Susanowa lives in. This world is very similar to the first life of Susanowa. Susanowa second life is similar to her first life. The planet is green and has all the physical things as flowers, mushrooms, numbers and colors Susanowa first life planet has. Their is no difference different from the first world Susanowa lives in. Susanowa second life also experiences planets. Both life's seem similar however, there is one difference in Susanowa first life their are more humans and in her second life I don't see humans.

The second life of Miso Susanowa makes me experience a world of nature where nature is the most important part of a humans life. Nature is very important in humans life for example nature reproduces food for humans to eat. The planets in the top of our planet gives us light for the day and night. The second life of Susanowa makes me look more deeper into nature and the beautiful things that nature has that sometimes we cannot see in the first world. The garden could be part of Susanowa identity. We really need to experience this second life dream code to see the meaning behind this second life planet.

Masaki Fujihata

This two pictures shows a piece of art. To Fujihata it describes the importance of writing in his culture. The place where the writing will take place looks quiet, and peaceful. The light is softly on  and the pen seems ready to be use. In the first picture, it illustrates a natural world where only the person writing exists. Only the person's mind is there at the moment ready to write anything that cames from the mind. Their is a table an their is a computer, where one could sit and do homework, poetry or more. The second picture shows a light on and shows and open notebook ready to start writing.
Both of these pictures are inspirational because they both show a place where one could succeed an think without interuptions. It is a place where new creations can start, where one can write without having people telling them what to do. Everything in both of these places are places where one can be positive and never be negative. These are places where one can open their minds and write anything they want to write about. For example, one can write in their diary about their personal life or one can concentrate in hard subjects in school. The purpose for this places are to have some mental freedom in a peaceful place to express themselves.

Mariko Mori

This picture shows Mariko Mori in another planet having an experience with Aliens. The aliens and Mori seem to be experiencing a connection. The aliens are round up in a circle and Mori is in the middle. The Aliens are trying to communicate with her. The aliens and Mori are very different the Aliens are short and blue, while Mori seem taller than them and is dress all in white. This picture shows how humans may actually have an experience with aliens because aliens exist and their trying to communicate with us. Mori seems to be calm and seems to be having some communicaion with the aliens. Mori and the aliens seem to be inside a place where no other people can see or hear. It looks more like the aliens want to take Mori with them to have some experience outside of this world.

This picture makes me feel like I actually want to have the same experience as Mori. It makes me want to have an experience with aliens and be able to travel outside of my world and get to know a different place out of this world. I want to have some experience with aliens and be able to cumminicate with them and be able to understand their own world. I want to know how aliens look and if the aliens are actually humans but look different than humans from this world.

Bill Viola

The picture on the left represents a slow relaxed agonizing death. The flames are slowly rising up to Viola's body. While he seems conscience of what is happening to him. The flames seem to be consuming him, while nothing seems to be frustrating him. It seems like hes enjoying the flames in his body by the way hes pulling his arms to the sides. Viola shows how nature can destroy every human being. Viola shows how these videos are experiences some humans go through in life while some people can be conscious of what is happening to them. The black background shows the other dark world that is waiting for him once the flames consume is body entirely and dissaperars.

The picture on the right shows waterfalls heavily from above until Viola dissapears in the flood. Viola looks like hes renewing his soul in clear waters to purify himself and his heart. Seems to be renewing himself again in life away from the past and starting a new renovation in his life. The experiences shown in his video shows experiences that are common to society for example the renewal of the spirit by baptism, and discover one's own consciousness. This is what Violas video illustrates. This pictures make me feel an experience with death but after death it makes me feel an experience of a second opportunity in life. It makes me feel that every human being has a second opportunity in life.

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

My identity is composed of many things. This collage took me a little bit of time because I wanted to make sure that everything that I included in my collage represents who I am. My name is Dellanira Castaneda, I am 19 years old. I am an undecided student at Cypress College, I have changed majors so many times that I don't know what to major in anymore. This collage doesn't have any words because all the images represent who I am. My family is very important to me, my father, mother and I guess my evil sister. Without my family I wouldn't be here today in class. They have been with me all my life, they always expect the best of me. My cousins are also very important to me. I have grown up with my cousins, so we have been through good and bad times. My aunt and uncle past away on October 23, 2010 in an accident. This was very hard for my cousins and I. My aunt and uncle death really affected me emotionally. I always think of them, they were always with me when I needed them. When I graduated high school, they were the only ones there, cheering for me. They motivated me to graduate and I did. God needed them, and I guess I should let them rest now. Second, My friends also represent who I am. My friends have been a very important role in my life, especially my high school friends, their the ones that have motivated to try new things and enjoy life. For me, my high school friends play a major role in my life. Also, some of my high school teachers have play an important part of my life. Brant Burkey, one of my history teacher once told me that life would get harder and harder but to never quit because he knew I would get far. Burkey changed my toughts about life, before I didn't care about the future but after, he talked about the future it changed my view about life. Also, nails are part of my daily life. I believe that nails talk about you. For example, I love nails that are glittery, outgoing, risky, without caring of what people think about them. That exactly who I are, I don't care about what people think about me, everything that I do I enjoy. I love shopping at BEBE store, when I go out, I tried wearing BEBE clothes. I love HELLO KITTY, I love buying her pens, jewelry, notebooks, bags, adorns and more. I also keep some of my old letters because the words in the letters have a significance in my life. Also, I would like to talk about something that I never realized I enjoyed doing and is somehow considered art. I took the picture in the pink outfit by myself. All I remember doing, was going near a window putting some make up on and do my hair. I have many pictures in different poses. That is something that I enjoyed doing when I was 16 years old.
